JP Legal offers a highly successful family and
cohabitation mediation service that is cost effective, sensible and
a realistic alternative to court action. All our mediators are
practising barristers and possess vast experience of family law
disputes. Our mediators seek to create an unbiased environment in
which conflicts are resolved amicably.
The mediator will meet with both parties and discuss their concerns
and help them reach mutual decisions on a range of issues
such as custody and contact with children, housing and finance.
We assist a variety of clients; for example, grandparents seeking
contact with their grandchildren, same sex couples and estranged family
members who may be grieving for a lost relative.
There is increasing acknowledgement that the adversarial court
process is not always best suited to the resolution of family disputes.
The average cost of divorce in the UK now cost £25,575 **. More than a
third of couples are forced to sell their marital home when they split
up. Since April 2011, the family court now has the power to encourage
parties to use alternative forms of dispute resolution. Parties seeking
a court order in relevant family proceedings will be expected, before making their application, to consider with a mediator whether the dispute may be capable of being resolved through mediation. This uptake of mediation will be
encouraged at any stage of the procceedings. If the parties fail to comply
with the new rules the Judge can order the parties to attend a meeting with
a mediator before any financial order is made.
JP Legal offers this obligatory mediation assessment as free. We will provide
a legally trained mediator to conduct this initial assessment over the telephone
or in person. At this session you are able to consider your options in a friendly
and non-pressurised environment and decide whether you feel that embarking on the
mediation is the right option for you.

We believe that this is a fantastic opportunity for all parties to obtain
a better settlement. There is a false belief by parties that if they could only
get a court order their interest will be satisfied. In many cases, this could
not be further from the truth as huge legal costs, stress and the inevitable
deterioration of the parental relationship leaves all parties worse off.

“Meditation brings wisdom;
lack of mediation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you
forward and what hold you back, and choose the path that leads
to wisdom.” |
